Crypto Evokes Greed, and people are still falling prey to scams. If someone contacts you on WhatsApp promising massive returns, block them and keep your coins. Don’t be a mark and turn over 800,000-bands to a stranger on social media.
I plan to celebrate my birthday with my dog, Ethel. But I have done will be updating daily lives as I get used to being on vacation and not going anywhere.
I have found a wealth of helpful information by subscribing to Chaikin Analytics. However, additional information from the sister research companies appears to be repackaging existing information, creating a sense of urgency, and coming across as somewhat scammy.
Here is my humorous list of attributes to recognize a scam:
- The “Act Now or Forever Hold Your Peace” email. This message insists you must click a link within the next 15 minutes to claim your prize/inherit your long-lost uncle’s fortune/prevent your bank account from being frozen. If you don’t, you’ll be missing out on an opportunity that only comes once in a lifetime—and it’s not even a free pizza.
- The “Nigerian Prince with a Wi-Fi Connection” special. A classic for a reason. This person needs your help moving millions of dollars out of a country you can’t pronounce, and all they need is your bank account number. The best part is, they’ll give you a small cut of the money, which is totally reasonable because who wouldn’t want to get a small cut of millions?
- The “One-of-a-Kind, Limited-Time-Only, Absolutely-Real, Can’t-Be-Duplicated” deal. This is the deal of a lifetime! It’s so good, in fact, that it can only be offered to you and your best friends from high school. But you have to act now because there are only three left in the whole world, and they’re being sold at a price that’s so low it’s almost insulting.
- The “Hey, It’s Your Best Friend From High School” text message. This person sends a text asking for money for an emergency, but they can’t remember your name and all they know is that you have a heart of gold. You’ll know it’s a scam because your best friend from high school would never ask you for a gift card to iTunes.
- The “Congratulations! You’ve Won!” notification. This alert tells you that you’ve won something big, but you have no idea what you won or why you won it. You’re told you’re the 1,000,000th visitor to a website, but the website has a visitor count of only 12. You’ll know it’s a scam because a real prize would be something you actually entered a contest for, not something you won just by being alive.
- The “Just Kidding, It’s Not a Scam, I Promise!” message. This is the most convincing scam of all. The message says something like “I know what you’re thinking, but this isn’t a scam! We’re a legitimate business, and we’re just trying to help you. We would never ask for your credit card number, but we do need your Social Security number and your mother’s maiden name for verification purposes.” You’ll know it’s a scam because if you have to tell someone you’re not a scam, you’re probably a scam.

Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower was intended to be part of a series of six novels, which were planned as Parable of the Talents, Parable of the Trickster, Parable of the Teacher, Parable of Chaos, and Parable of Clay. Still, only the first two were ever published, in 1993 and 1998, respectively.
It is well known that the Parable of the Trickster had many starts and stops, and Octavia Butler was suffering from debilitating writer’s block towards the end of her life. I believe that if she had lived to see the discontinuation of the shuttle program and the rise of SpaceX and Blue Origin, those last books would have been written, and she would have written to President Obama or Stacy Abrams, ushering in a new age of enlightenment.
My prologue has Imara Wright Drew, a 35-year-old African American woman, who works as part of the Earthseed community as a guide, aiding family groups that have awakened from Diapause (suspended animation) on Bow, the colony under a dome on Trappist 1e.
The Trickster as an Agent of Change
In many mythologies and cultures, the trickster is a deity or figure who is both a creator and a destroyer. They are chaotic, unpredictable, and exist to challenge the status quo and bring about change. This archetype aligns perfectly with the central belief of Earthseed: “God is Change.”
- A “parable of the trickster” would explore the chaotic, often painful, and seemingly random nature of “God as Change.”
- It would highlight that change isn’t always good or predictable. Sometimes, it takes on a destructive, trickster-like form—as seen in the societal collapse, environmental disasters, and violent conflicts of the novels.
- The trickster’s lessons are about adaptability, outsmarting a rigid system, and using cleverness to survive. This is precisely what Lauren Olamina and her followers must do to survive.
- I will rework because this trial and its resolution is necessary for the community and mankind to advance to be able to realize their destiny in the stars.
