Over 40 And Unapologetically Nerdy…Stargazing in TN, Jedidah Isler PhD Spotlight, Dope ST Ships and Collections, ST Reads, Trivia, Prologue from Listeners

This is an exercise in the different ways to observe planets, moons and other stellar objects inside and outside of our galaxies.

Refractor vs Reflector(optical lenses and mirror

*Fun Fact there are 5 such Observatories right here in TN, owned and operated by the Universities and local Community Colleges.

The Middle Tennessee State University’s Naked Eye Observatory

observatory is made up of 12 columns surrounding a scale model of the sun (32 feet). Each column has inscribed on it, in granite,  a picture of a planetary object with facts about the object underneath it, and are all made to scale with the thirty-two-foot sun. The columns are also aligned with the spring and fall equinoxes. The naked eye observatory is an essential part of the star parties, as it allows users to map and see celestial bodies as they move across the sky.

Dope Black Women in STEM…Highlight Jedidah Isler PhD

Jedidah Isler first fell in love with the night sky as a little girl. Now she’s an astrophysicist who studies supermassive hyperactive black holes. In a charming talk, she takes us trillions of kilometers from Earth to introduce us to objects that can be 1 to 10 billion times the mass of the sun — and which sometimes shoot powerful jet streams of particles in our direction.

What does an multi-billionaire computational astrophysicist(Felicity Lundgren) and a quantum mechanical physicist (Dahl Lundgren) fix and eat in their chef grade professional kitchen? Ramen, Cup of Noodles. This is their exact midday meal eaten is the Japanese instant noodle topped with chopped boiled eggs and scallions grown in their hydroponic garden when they receive a holographic like image from a galaxy over 40,000 light years away.
